In October the Funakoshi Gichin World online Kata Festival commenced and throughout November students from countries all over the world submitted a video of themselves performing a modified version of Tekki Shodan kata for their relevant age groups.
The aim of the tournament:
This “festival” was planned with the aim to provide an event where karate-ka around the world, who may be unable to train at their dojos due to COVID-19, could enjoy a competition together with JKA friends everywhere!
Videos submissions were watched and judged by JKA masters from Honbu dojo in Japan.
JKA Scotland submitted 30 students kata videos in total.
All videos were judged during January with the final results being released in February 2021. All students received a specially created certificate of participation direct from Japan which had a participation ID noted and signed by Chief Instructor Shihan Ueki directly.
This opportunity may never come about again and therefore a big congratulations to everyone who took part in this festival. You should be proud of your participation in this event and pushing yourself individually to be judged by JKA masters. That alone is an achievement.
