From Thursday, 30th March to Monday, 3rd April 2023, the JKA Scotland Senior squad were in Sursee, Switzerland to participate in the first JKA European Championships since the Coronavirus pandemic struck.
The squad arrived in the beautiful town of Sursee on Thursday before a final training session at the Sports Centre on Friday, prior to the start of Championships, led by Sensei Deans and Sensei Williamson.
As usual, Saturday morning saw an early start for the Championships with the JKA Scotland Squad arriving at the Stadhalle Arena in Sursee at 8.30am.
With this being the main event in the JKA Europe calendar, countries from all over Europe took part with over 20 separate nationalities present.
Held on five tatamis, the tournament started on schedule at 9:00am with the Junior Kata and team events being up first.
Despite everyone competing to the best of their ability, there were no medals for our competitors, the standard being exceptionally high.
The very high level of competition at the event, which was well organized by JKA Switzerland, again showed the very high standard of karate within JKA Europe and the level we must aspire to achieve.
Well done to all members of the JKA Scotland team who took part.
