11th March 2023 was fast in coming around for the Scottish Championship and the event that everyone waits for to show their skills and the hard work that they have put into their training to compete against other members of clubs within JKA Scotland.  Students started arriving early on the day and you could sense the excitement from them, it was great to see everyone catching up with friends who they do not see often, with Students travelling and attending from all over Scotland.

To make sure everything was ready to go on the morning of the event, setup of the hall started on the Friday night with members supporting.

Eliminations started at 9.30am, therefore It was an early start on the Saturday morning, with the hall full of excited competitors, who already were practicing on the tatami’s from when they entered the venue and Judges getting ready for the day ahead.

With categories available for all grades and students participating from as young as 5 years old, up to those who were in their 70’s, which demonstrated that they wanted to be able to show how well they had been training and what they could do, by challenging themselves on the day. All competitors displayed excellent spirit, friendliness, and respect for each other, with judges giving 100% concentration not to miss anything on the mats.

It is never easy pushing yourself to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself especially in front of others, but this helps build confidence and shows what can be done, so to all competitors on the day who did, every one of you are winners.

JKA Scotland would like to thank all involved in making the day a success, those who organised everything in the background, who set up/cleared up, referees, table assistants, family, and friends for being there to support, the medics and Dunfermline High School for allowing us to use their venue. Special thanks to all competitors who make the day.
